Reliable and professional car rental for a Kenya road trip
We rented a Land Cruiser 76 from this company for our road trip through Kenya. Communication was quick and easy from the very beginning, and they also helped us plan our route. The car was delivered to our hotel, and at the end of our trip we were able to return it at the airport, which was very convenient. What we especially appreciated was that at the start of the trip, a WhatsApp group was created with the owner, mechanic, and our contact person. Whenever we had a problem or question, one of them responded almost immediately, which gave us great peace of mind throughout our trip. Epic 4x4 road trip
I would highly recommend Jeremiah and Denis and the team. We travelled one way from Entebbe to Rwanda to Arusha crossing 2 borders over 21 days. It was an epic road trip and the team worked so hard and went the 'extra mile' tracking us down enroute to fix even minor things along the way. They were always understanding, very professional and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Note the 78 series is very old and dusty as the aircon doesn't really work effectively but the team from 4x4 Self Drive did everything they could to ensure we had a fantastic holiday.

Great car for adventurous journey
Choosing this company for our 3 week self-drive trip has proved to be a good decision. In the booking proces the communication and service was accurate and swift which immediately inspired confidence and trust. I think that Jeremiah's info which came to is through his mails was of a high standard. Once in Africa the car was delivered right at the agreed time and place. The explanation of the car and our camping equipment was extensive and comprehensive. We were on our way in no time. The 80's Landcruiser turned out to be a bullet-proof tank. We made quite a trip and really gave it a punishment. A small issue was immediately and quickly solved by Hqkim and his mechanic. Great service. A fantastic journey through a beautiful country with wonderful people.
We booked a self-drive Toyota Land Cruiser from 4X4 Self Drive Cars for Hire for a family safari in July 2026 (two adults and two teenagers), and the whole experience was excellent. The vehicle was delivered right to our hotel in Nairobi and we received a thorough, immediate briefing. From there we drove to Amboseli National Park. Although the park is relatively small, we saw a lot of wildlife — lions, elephants, zebras, and buffalo. The Land Cruiser was ideal: the pop-up roof gave us a fantastic 360-degree view and the vehicle handled the poorly maintained roads very well. The next day we continued to Tsavo West National Park, where we did two game drives. The landscapes varied beautifully and we saw many more animals. From Tsavo West we went on to Tsavo East and enjoyed another game drive, spotting hippos and crocodiles. After Tsavo East we drove down to our holiday base at Diani Beach. While there we took a final game drive into Shimba Hills and visited a stunning waterfall in the nearby rainforest. The Land Cruiser was collected directly from our house in Diani Beach, which was extremely convenient. Communication with 4X4 was excellent throughout — WhatsApp made everything easy and gave us a constant sense of security and support. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Driving on the left was easy to get used to, and the park tracks were not a major challenge. Overall the service from 4X4 Self Drive Cars for Hire was perfect. We felt safe and well looked after the entire time and had a fantastic trip through breathtaking landscapes with very friendly people. Kenya self drive safari
Denis picked us up from Nairobi and showed us around the car and told us anything we needed to know. The car was faultless the entire time and we were so glad of it in some of the more remote areas we went. We were kept updated on the WhatsApp group of any problems we may encounter and they were also at the end of the phone should we need anything. Great Service and a Reliable Car for Our Uganda Trip
We had a very good experience with this car rental company in Uganda. The booking process and vehicle handover were smooth, and throughout our trip the car was reliable and never let us down. The vehicle was a bit old and some parts of the interior were starting to fall apart, but this didn't affect its performance at all. Mechanically, the car worked perfectly and we had no issues during our trip. The fridge, however, didn't cool very well. It also switched off when the engine was turned off, so it couldn't keep food or drinks cold overnight. This was a bit inconvenient during our camping trip. The WhatsApp support was excellent. The team always responded quickly, answered all our questions, and even helped us arrange our gorilla and chimpanzee trekking permits, which made planning our trip much easier. The only thing we found a little unusual was that the security deposit had to be paid in cash. We hadn't experienced that with other rental companies before, but everything worked out as agreed and we received the deposit back without any problems. Overall, we would definitely recommend this company. The outstanding customer service and reliable support made our trip through Uganda much easier and more enjoyable.

Good vehicles, impeccable service
26-day rental for Kenya and Northern Tanzania. The vehicles are bulletproof and come fully equipped with all essential camping gear, including an ice-cold fridge. The rooftop tent is great and we wouldn’t do East Africa any other way. With fairly old Land Cruisers, it’s inevitable that there will be some minor mechanical issues. Great adventure with the roof tent!
We rented the 4x4 with roof tent for 5 days. Super satisfied with the communication, punctuality and professionalism of this organization. Extensive briefing in advance so that we could get well prepared. Using the car was therefore also easy. Strong car, very much enjoyed the nights in the roof tent! 4x4 through the Kenyan bush
We rented a hardtop landcruiser from the company to use on our tour around the region of Naivasha, Chuka and Mt. Kenya to look for snakes. The car was in good order and worked as stated. We had it delivered to Lake Nakuru and returned it pre flight on Nairobi Airport. The team followed us along the way and had continous contact with us to ensure everuthing worked for us as expected. Kenya African Safaris and More!
When I told my fiancee that I was going to rent a car and drive ourselves around Kenya, and do two safaris (OlPejeta and Amboseli) she thought I was crazy, and was understandably nervous. They drive opposite of us here in USA. I googled searched and found 4x4 Self Drive Cars for Hire and others. But picked them based on the reviews and their clear communication, nothing felt rushed. We landed in Nairobi, Jeremy and team were able to deliver the Land Cruiser diesel from 4X4 Self Drive Cars for Hire tonour airbnb location in Nairobi and it felt like the trip clicked into place. Jeremy added us to a WhatsApp group with his support team, which made everything feel personal. Any question that I had was answered immediately, via text, phone or video. Out on the outskirts, where the roads get rough, the Land Cruiser felt made for safaris and long stretches of uneven terrain. The pop-up safari roof was excellent for safaris, pictures, animal watching. We couldn’t have had a better vehicle. We hit a four-wheel drive hiccup, (might’ve been user error), and a mechanic within their network came out to my location in Nanyuki to help, fixed instantly. That kind of support felt like a safety net. I will always be thankful for the lifetime memories created for me and my fiancée on our first African adventure trip.
